We have spent the last couple of weeks learning about states of matter. Once we learned what solids, liquids, and gasses are, it was time to explore and observe!

We observed what happened to crayons when they spent the day in the crock pot. It was a great example of chemical changes! The kids were really excited that the crayons turned back into crayons when they cooled. |

You might have wondered what root beer floats have to do with anything academic :) They are a great example of all three states of matter! The ice cream is a solid (until it melts), the root beer is a liquid, and when they are put together, they create a foam, which is an example of a gas. Apparently we were to busy to stop to take a photo of us making the actual treats, but here are examples of the project we did to go along with them. They wrote about what they observed on the back. |

Yesterday we made ice cream! This demonstrates the chemical change of freezing. We had to move around a lot to help the ice cream freeze...and to keep from getting too cold from the ice! |

It was really tasty! |
