Have a Great Summer!

We had a wonderful year in 2K! We learned a lot and had some fun while doing it :) I hope everyone has a fabulous summer break and I look forward to seeing the kids in the fall!
We did a group hug at the end of the day on the last day. My arms weren't
long enough to capture everyone, but  I love this view of 2K.

Naturally, we had to do a silly picture, too!

Fun Friday!

This past Friday was a very fun day! We had our PBIS celebration for the end of the year. The whole school pooled Soar Tickets to work toward this celebration. We started out with some hip-hop dancing in the gym.

Then, we went to the library where each student got to chose a book to keep that was about art, music, artists, or musicians. After that, we went outside to paint objects for the first OB Sound Garden!

A big thanks to all the teachers and parents who helped out! We had a blast and learned a lot!

More Fun with the Chicks

2K had a lot of fun when we took the chicks out of the cage and played with them today. The chicks had a lot of fun, too!

The chicks like to sleep in the food dishes.

Chick Mania!

It was an exciting day in 2K. We got to take the chicks out and hold him for the first time! The kids were so sweet, gentle, and brave with the chicks. We definitely have some animal lovers in the class!
Miss Ladue even stopped by for a visit with the chicks in 2K!

The Eggs Are Here!

It has been an exciting week in 2K with the arrival of the much anticipated chicken eggs! We have 31 eggs in our incubator right now. They are all different colors! We had no idea chicken eggs could be blue and green! The chicks will hatch in about 13 days and throughout the incubation period we will be candling the eggs to see the development of the fetus. Yesterday when we candled, we were able to see veins and the eyes of the embryos. Each day, one 2K student has the important job of being the "Chick Checker." This student records the humidity and temperature in the incubator three times a day. If the levels are off, we add more water to the base of the incubator. As we are waiting for the chicks to hatch, we will be studying the life cycles of butterflies and frogs, as well.
Here is what some of the eggs in our class incubator look like.
Mrs. Chapie teaching all the second-grade students about the safety of the eggs while in the incubators.
Mrs. Chapie (or "Crazy Chick Lady" as she calls herself this time of year) showing the parts of the egg to the second graders.

Science is Out of this World!

2K scientists have spent the last couple weeks exploring the solar system! Mrs. Brown has helped us us augmented reality to experience the planets like we're really there. Here are a few photos of students working together to learn about the different planets in our solar system.
